Slow the game down is something that I’ve believed in since I was a player. It helped me focus and execute at a higher level.  Now as a coach,  I am so lucky we get to pass along this program/process/tool to our players. It can be so beneficial from a variety of aspects, the athletes just have to be given a chance and run with it.  Thank you for everything you do and helping us enhance our approach!!!

I do NOT know how I do it and I don’t WANT TO KNOW!

One day a frog was sunning himself on a lily pad when a centipede came walking by. The frog was immediately entranced by the centipede’s flowing and graceful movement across the pad. He marveled at what an amazing ability the insect had to both time and co-ordinate all of those legs so that the end result was so smooth and precise. While he was a great leaper and strong swimmer, the frog couldn’t help but feel a little jealous of the centipede’s skills. After all, his job was so easy, having to coordinate only two legs and two arms, while the centipede’s was so much more complicated, having to balance one hundred.

Hoping to be enlightened by the insect’s tremendous skill, the frog said to the centipede: “Kind sir. I am most impressed by your flowing athleticism and your ability to closely synchronize all those legs of yours. I must admit that I myself could never coordinate 100 legs the fine way that you do. Would I be out of line if I asked you, how in the world do you do that?”

Why the Game Speeds Up When it Formerly Slowed Down
Post Concussion Visual Evaluation and Rehabilitation

The eyes have been called the “window to the soul.” The eyes are also a window into the brain. Specifically, their input influence which areas of the brain that are activated at any one moment in time.

High performers in baseball maintain clarity, situational awareness, accurate analysis and good decision-making under pressure. These athletes appear to see the big picture as well as focus intently on the important details. As athletes mature, competition requires their performance must improve. The games can appear to speed up. But usually within a short time the athlete is able to slow the game down.

Consistantly hitting a baseball requires exceptional visual skills

Consistantly hitting a baseball requires exceptional visual skills that are most challenged by speed, extraneous motion and peripheral distractions.

To get the eyes to work better in baseball the visual system's processing speed needs to be ramped up so the player can see and react more quickly and efficiently.

The importance of eye speed can be clearly considered when you think of when you see a red light, and then step on the brakes. Their “visual brain” processing speed defines how fast you can register and identify an external visual stimulus—the red light. Their “motor brain” controls their motor speed of physical reaction time, defines how fast you can react to it—step on the brakes.

Baseball is a great game. It's a game you can play, be a fan, a coach, or a parent of player for most of your life.

But it is not an easy game. It is challenging.

One of the biggest challenges is in hitting. It takes a lot of skill-sets to be a good hitter. To be a hitter what do you think is the number one thing yu need to master?

"Hit the ball"
"Hit a good pitch"
"Use a good swing"
"Get comfortable"
"See the ball"

A young baseball player with a vision problem

7/26/2014

A young baseball player with a vision problem rarely progresses very far in the game.  They either don’t play very well or find the game too frustrating to play.  The game commonly follows “survival of the fittest.” If you can’t throw you don’t become a pitcher, if you can’t run you don’t become a shortstop or a centerfielder, and if you can’t see properly you can’t hit.

Survival of the fittest has a big effect on a baseball player’s career. It’s not just physical fitness that is important. Mental fitness and visual fitness may be even more important.

A baseball player deserves high quality equipment Players at any age will perform better and feel more confident use high quality equipment.  Due to the technological revolution equipment just gets better and better.

The player’s body is also part of his equipment, and for certain, his eyes, are important part of his equipment. Vision that is adequate for normal living frequently is not adequate for top baseball competition.
